March 1st: On arrival into Auckland international airport, you'll be met by a representative from GOOD Travel and taken to your accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, you may wish to join an optional Whale and Dolphin Safari. In the evening, we'll have a special welcome dinner and trip briefing in one of Auckland's restaurants famous for their sustainability practices and delicious food.
March 2nd: After a scenic drive, we'll arrive at Hobbiton. We'll step into the lush pastures of the Shire and experience the real Middle-earth, as seen in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. We will be guided around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit Holes, the Mill and into the world-famous Green Dragon Inn. We'll then head to Rotorua, arriving in time to enjoy an evening dip in the hot pools at the Polynesian Spa.
March 3rd: We'll start bright and early this morning. Our first stop will be the Tongariro National Park - home to three active volcanoes, including Ngauruhoe (Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings). We'll continue our drive south where we'll stop for an afternoon cooking class at the Ruth Pretty Cooking school in the rural tranquility of Te Horo.
March 4th: After a short drive to Wellington, you'll be invited to lunch at our co-founder's home and GOOD Travel's headquarters. You'll have the opportunity to learn more about the story behind GOOD Travel and how it came to be. You'll have the rest of the day to explore New Zealand's capital city and do some shopping!
March 5th: We'll take one of the world's most scenic ferry journeys to the South Island of New Zealand. Our next stop will be an award-winning vineyard famous for its sustainability practices and then we'll head to Motueka to spend the night.
March 6th: Today, we'll experience paddling a Waka (Māori canoe) in the Abel Tasman national park renowned for its golden beaches, sculptured granite cliffs and marine wildlife. You'll have the opportunity to learn about Māori etiquette (tikanga) associated with waka before becoming familiar with the boat and embarking on your journey (haerenga). We'll then head to a farm to spend the night.
March 7th: After a leisurely morning on the farm, we'll have lunch with the family of GOOD Travel's co-founder in their rural home near Motueka. They'll share their story of how they first came to New Zealand as tourists in 1977, dreamed of New Zealand for many years, and finally migrated here 20 years ago. We'll then head to Nelson in the evening for a special farewell dinner.
March 8th: The trip ends here in Nelson. We highly recommend staying longer in New Zealand if possible and we would be happy to arrange an add-on tour for you to Queenstown and Wanaka, or any other destinations.
