The following itinerary provides an outline of our trip intentions, but some activities may be adjusted a little. You will be provided with a full welcome pack including a detailed itinerary closer to our departure date.
23 March: Arrival in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
On you arival into Dar es Salaam, you will be met by representatives from GOOD Travel and Twin Hearts. We will travel with you to our hotel in Dar es Salaam. On arrival at the hotel, we will have a welcome briefing and the chance to rest and relax.
24 March: InvesTours, Dar es Salaam
Today we will have the opportunity to meet local artisans in Dar es Salaam who have applied for micro-loans to grow small business projects such as dressmaking, woodcarving, or food vending. This tour with Investours will give you the opportunity to gain an intimate view of the local way of life while directly witnessing the power of microfinance.
25 March: Travel to Zanzibar
We will take a 2-3 hour ferry ride to Zanzibar. We will then travel for a further 1-2 hours by bus to our lodge. On arrival, we will be greeted by the amazing staff at the lodge and we will settle into our beautiful villas.
26 March: Village visit, Zanzibar
Today, we will visit the local village to learn about the project that the donation portion of your trip will be supporting. $100 from you trip fee will be donated to Twin Hearts who will work in partnership with the village leaders to coordinate the project. Twin Hearts is based in Ballarat, Australia and was designed to help local, small organisations and causes that perhaps don’t get the funding, recognition or help that other large organisations get. Twin Hearts concentrates on sustainable causes, with Women, Children, Health and Education being the main focus.
27 March: Island Tour, Zanzibar
We will take boats out to a sand bar where we'll enjoy a delicious beach barbecue surrounded by ocean on all sides. We'll also have the opportunity to do some snorkeling along the way.
28 March: Stone Town, Zanzibar
Today, we will visit Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stone Town is the cultural and historic heart of Zanzibar. We'll explore the beautiful streets and architecture, learn about the history of Stone Town, and have some time for shopping at the local markets.
29 March: Vision Day, Zanzibar
Our final day in Zanzibar will be all about relaxing and recharging before our journey home. Kelly-Louise Austin from Twin Hearts will lead a vision board workshop. Following a short guided meditation, Kelly-Louise will help you create a board to inspire you to follow your dreams, big, small, whatever they may be.
30 March: Return to Dar es Salaam
We will drive for 1-2 hours to Zanzibar airport and then take the ferry back to Dar es Salaam. If you would like to extend your stay in Tanzania, please let us know and we'll be happy to help.

Hotel in Dar es Salaam: Our hotel in Dar es Salaam provides ongoing support to Reach for a Dream Foundation, makes donations towards emergency appeals, encourages all staff to get involved in community development programs, serves fair trade coffee, and has a long-term sustainability strategy.
Tour in Dar es Salaam: During our stay in Dar es Salaam, we will visit the city with Investours Tanzania. Investours is a non-profit organisation that leverages the resources generated by tourism to promote economic development in the communities surrounding Dar es Salaam. We will have the opportunity to meet local entrepreneurs who have applied for micro-loans to grow small business projects such as dressmaking, woodcarving, or food vending. We will gain an intimate view of the local way of life while directly supporting the local entrepreneurs through micro-loans funded by our tour fee.
Lodge in Zanzibar: Our lodge in Zanzibar has received numerous awards acknowledging their efforts towards being a leader in sustainable tourism. They were the winner under the sustainability category of the Boutique Hotel Awards for the region of Africa and they are a ‘sapling level’ operator under Responsible Tourism Tanzania. Taking care of the natural and social environment is key to their philosophy. The lodge was designed to blend into the surroundings and they proactively protect the resident animals, including the rare red colobus monkeys, the black tail monkeys, elephant shrew, butterflies and birds. They also contribute to the village by supporting the local school, a waste control program and the local football team.
Community project in Zanzibar: $100 of your trip fee will be donated to Twin Hearts to support a local project in Zanzibar. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the community project you are supporting during your stay in Zanzibar.
The trip will be led by Kelly Holyoake from GOOD Travel and Kelly-Louise Austin from Twin Hearts. In addition, a number of experienced local guides will be involved in various aspects of the trip.
Kelly-Louise is the President and Founder of Twin Hearts, which launched in 2016 following her work with other not-for profits for over 10 years. With a committee of 11 passionate, hardworking volunteers, they are a fully registered not-for-profit organisation.
When not working with Twin Hearts Kelly-Louise is a Mum to identical twin girls and a little boy, and a wife to Craig. She works as a corporate concierge and a writer and theatre reviewer, and also as a musician and vision board workshop facilitator.
Kelly is one of GOOD Travel's advisers and co-led our inaugural trip to Zanzibar a couple of years ago. She has lived in Tanzania through her work with a non-profit organisation called Mama Hope and visits Tanzania regularly through her charity, Pamoja.
Kelly is also an early childhood teacher in Wanaka, New Zealand. She loves running, food, and most of all Tanzania! She can't wait to show you her second home and favourite place in the world!

The first option is to pay for your trip over a series of twelve monthly installments of US$225 each.
