Day 1:

Welcome to Iceland! You'll arrive at Keflavik international airport and transfer to family owned Centre Hotels Plaza in the heart of downtown Reykjavik.

Day 2:

Staying two nights in this vibrant city gives us a full day today to explore Reykjavik today. We'll walk Skólavörðustígur, Rainbow Street, admire Hallgrímskirkja church, and other nooks and crannies of this easily walkable city.

We'll gather for our welcome dinner tonight in a locally owned and operated restaurant.

Day 3:

This morning we'll leave Reykjavik and travel north towards the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. On the way we'll stop for our first soak in one of Icelands gorgeous natural thermal springs, the Hvammsvík baths. Don't forget your swimsuit!  We'll continue on to the village of Borgarnes, and visit the Settlement Center, taking in the Saga Exhibit and lunch. Our time here will give us an introduction into the history of Iceland and provide a context for the rest of our trip.

Then we're on to Snæfellsnes, dubbed 'Iceland in a nutshell' due to its diversity of landscapes all on one peninsula. With its spectacular mountains, towering waterfalls, gorgeous beaches and friendly locals, Snæfellsnes has it all.

We'll spend three nights relaxing at Langaholt, a family owned and run country hotel with an onsite restaurant dedicated to sourcing all its ingredients locally.

Day 4:

Today we'll explore the northern side of Snæfellsnes Peninsula, accompanied by a local woman storyteller from Snæfellsnes who will share her knowledge of Snæfellsnes from a woman's perspective. We'll hear stories of pioneering women and their influence on Iceland's history and culture, whilst visiting sites of historical and cultural significance. We'll visit the town of Grundarfjörður, a fishing village nestled underneath the picturesque Kirkjufell Mountain as well as other villages in this area. Meeting and sharing stories with our local storyteller is sure to make this a truly special and memorable day.

Day 5:

Today we'll stay on the south side of Snæfellsnes and take in the beautiful beaches of the peninsula. We'll spend today with another Icelandic storyteller, and participate in a citizen science environmental project related to seals, as well as a local food project led by Snæfellsnes tourism as part of their journey towards being more regenerative. We'll also visit the villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar hearing stories of these areas from our local host.

Day 6:

We'll leave the Snæfellsnes Peninsula today to the Þingvellir national park where we'll stretch our legs with an easy walk. After lunch we'll visit Geysir Hot Spring area, with its boiling mud pits and the lively Strokkur geysir which spouts water into the air every few minutes. We'll continue to the iconic thundering Gullfoss waterfall before enjoying a soak at secret lagoon, the oldest natural lagoon in Iceland.

Tonight we'll settle in at locally owned and operated Guesthouse Álftröð for the night.

Day 7:

This morning we'll visit the Sólheimar Eco Village, the first sustainable community in Iceland. You'll be inspired by the environmental and socially responsible work being done here while enjoying a locally harvested and produced lunch. We're proud to support this community and its work through our traveller donations program.

We'll have our lunch at the unique Friðheimar greenhouse, and a tour to learn more about how they use geothermal energy to heat the greenhouse. Friðheimar is a tomato extravaganza.

This evening we'll be welcomed to Hotel Fljótshlið where we'll enjoy local hospitality on this sustainably run farm.

Day 8:

This morning we'll drive to Sólheimajökull for a glacier hike! We'll hike through ice sculptures, crevasses, streams, and rock formations. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to witness an awe-inspiring glacier close up and learn about the impacts our changing climate is having on these fragile landscapes.

We'll visit the remote coastal town of Vik and experience a lava show, getting up close to real molten lava, and learning about Iceland's unique volcanic landscapes. If you're keen to know more about the volcanic activity in Iceland as well, following lava show on instagram is vey informative.

We'll have lunch at locally owned and operated The Soup Company in Vik, before exploring the fascinating Reynisfjara black sand beach with its basalt rock formations. We'll have time to visit both Skógafoss waterfall and possibily Seljalandsfoss waterall also. Or perhaps that will be tomorrow morning, our last morning in Iceland.

Tonight, we'll share a special farewell dinner together and share memories of our time together.

Day 9:

This morning we'll meander our way back to the airport. On the way we'll stop at the town of Selfoss and have lunch at The Old Dairy, a collection of kitchens where anyone's food fantasy can be experienced!  Well... nearly every fantasy!

We'll reluctantly continue on to Keflavik Airport for our flights home.
